What is Resonance?

Picture
Karma is often misunderstood as a cosmic system of reward and punishment, but at its root, karma simply means action. Every thought, word, and deed leaves an imprint in your world and your being. Over time, these imprints create patterns—loops of perception and behavior that shape how you see reality and how reality seems to respond to you.

Even if you don’t believe in reincarnation, which karma is traditionally tied to, the principle is easy to see in your own nervous system and genes. How you see and meet the world, how you interpret events, habitual actions and strong beliefs—all of this wires itself into your biology through neuroplasticity and even epigenetic expression. The same goes in the social sphere: Act with kindness, and people tend to respond kindly. The nicer people are to you, the easier it is to believe the world is a kind place.

While I experience karma as something deeper than physical and social conditioning, these are the most obvious ways it plays out. Bottom line: It doesn’t matter what happened in your past lives—or if you’ve had any. Your karma is now. The real question is: will you keep running the same action-reaction script? Or is something else possible? Is there something in you—something you are—that cannot be pushed or pulled by circumstances, yet can fully participate in life?

Resonance
To understand karma and the possibility of transmuting it into dharma—alignment with life’s deeper intelligence—you have to understand resonance.

Just as a guitar string vibrates when the same note is played nearby, your inner state resonates with the world—and the world with you. Ever notice how some people lift you up while others drag you down? How your whole day can spiral depending on your mood in the morning? That is resonance. Your thoughts, emotions, and attitudes act like tuning forks, drawing in matching frequencies from the field of experience.

The Law of Attraction is built on this, but like karma, it is often misunderstood and oversimplified. Every person is a complex symphony of vibrations—some high, some low, some in tune and some out. Our conscious mind and willpower make up only a tiny fraction of our overall vibration. No matter how hard we try to force life from that small space, it is the overall resonance that counts.

This is why affirmations work for some and fall flat for others. For someone truly open, they can be powerful. But if used to mask fear or chase desires rooted in fear, they only amplify it. It is not so much the words, but the overall feeling—the vibration behind them—that matters. Vibration always wins.

To shift your resonance—to become more coherent, more alive—you need more than mental tricks. You need deep retuning. Yes, use awareness and intention. Watch your thoughts, words, and actions. But also go deeper. Have the courage to face your shadow––the repressed, rejected parts of yourself that you would not be caught dead with. If you do not, they will always continue to run your life from offstage. Most importantly, whatever you do, form a living connection to the still, silent, fertile emptiness beyond your stories—the vast intelligence behind all of your life's theatrics. It will play a new tune––an unexpectedly beautiful one you could never imagine––if you let it.

Re-tuning
The world you perceive is the world you get. Your perception is shaped by karma—your habits, reactions, and identities. That’s why true change doesn’t just come from thinking differently, but from tuning differently.
Meditation, mantra, creative imagination, and toning are powerful ways to shift your frequency. At its core, meditation is about resting in the high frequency of spacious awareness—so high it seems to dissolve into stillness. From this stillness, other vibrations may come forth, singing new realities into being.

A mantra isn’t just a sound; it’s a vibrational key that attunes you to a higher frequency within. When you chant a mantra, you connect to a living field of resonance—perhaps as old as creation, perhaps built through collective practice—that can lift you beyond your personal story. Each mantra carries a flavor: light, power, sweetness, expansion, peace. But these words are only hints. When you resonate with a mantra’s frequency, the world begins to reflect it back to you in astonishing ways that can only be experienced to be believed. I’ve seen my life rearrange itself through mantra more than once, and I can attest: magic is real, but way more subtle and mysterious than how it is portrayed in the movies.

Toning, like mantra, uses sound to tune consciousness—but it’s intuitive. You let the sounds emerge and sing through you. When approached with trust and clear intent—free of expectation—it can unlock inner resources, open new states of awareness, and even spark healing or insight.

These are just glimpses of how you can consciously tune to a higher vibration—something already within you—and begin to transmute your karma. This isn’t about escape or denial. You can’t change your past or undo what’s been said and done. In a sense, you’re riding the momentum of all that.

But in this moment—the eternal now—you are free. Free to respond differently. To do that, you must attune. Shift your resonance. Let go of the effort of always reacting the same way, with the same tools from your past. The mind only knows what it already knows. Trust the deeper intelligence beyond it. Tune into it. Let it move you.
